Honor Society QUESTION!?

i am a student attending Houston Community College, and i would like to know if i should join a few honor societies that are offering me membership. the clubs are Omega Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa. i hear from friends that it will help me get scholarships when i transfer to a major university, but others tell me its just a waste of time. they look intriguing, so should i join or no? any insight will help!!
